Please forgive us for our late blog entry this week. Our hearts have been broken yet again. As you’re very likely aware, there has been yet another tragedy here, in the state of Florida. On Wednesday, 17 students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland were gunned down and killed by a former student who used an AR-15 assault rifle to carry out his heinous acts.
It simply isn’t enough to convey how brokenhearted we are over this senseless act of violence and the taking of so many innocent young lives. And it certainly isn’t acceptable that nothing be done to prevent future tragedies like this one from every happening again. However, it is not the intention of this blog to express our stance on issues surrounding gun laws. We wish, at this point, to send our sincere condolences to all of those who have been affected by this horrible incident.
We would also like to pass along some information to those who are grieving.
The Broward County Public Schools Twitter account has been busy all morning providing information about grief counseling that is available. There is even a district hotline available today for anyone who wishes to speak to a counselor over the phone. The phone number is 754-321-HELP. As well, there is an email address available for those who may prefer to use that method. It is WeSupport@browardschools.com.
Grief counselors have also made themselves available to all Broward County Public Schools students and families who wish to speak to someone in person. Today, they are located at Pine Trails Park Recreation Center and Amphitheater which is at 10555 Trails End in Parkland and Coral Springs Center for the Arts at 2855 Coral Springs Drive in Coral Springs.
We can all help those who have had their lives changed forever by this tragedy.
For those of us who don’t live in Broward County and wish to help, a GoFundMe page has been set up to support the victims, families and those affected by the shooting. Please feel free to visit the page and donate whatever you can towards the cause of healing those who so desperately need it at this time.
“There are no words to express the sorrow that we are all feeling,” reads the GoFundMe page, “Donations raised here will be used to provide relief and financial support to the victims and families of the horrific shooting…There are no platform fees for using GoFundMe, so 100% of the funds collected after payment processing charges will go directly to the victims and families. Thank you for your support.”
“We know that dealing with this act of violence will take time – and we are going to do everything in our power to ensure our students, families and employees have the support they need,” wrote Broward County Public Schools Superintendent, Robert W. Runcie in a statement published yesterday, “We are here for you. Please continue to keep the Marjory Stoneman Douglas community in your thoughts and prayers.”
The team, here at Allegiant Experts, echoes the sentiments of Mr. Runcie, with the hope that a lot more will be done to protect all Americans from such tragedies in the future. Until then, we continue to live with broken hearts.
